In a world where values of truth, respect, trust, justice, and integrity are sacrificed at the altar of money, this book is a useful reminder that to be successful does not have to mean being a psycho.
In fact, Sophocleous argues, to have a thriving business, we need to bring morality back. And she practices what she preaches. As the founder of Corporate Alchemy, she has helped numerous businesses achieve results.
Sophocleous outlines the need for a new ethical business code and makes an excellent economic argument for why we should be more enlightened.
She argues that on the micro scale, every business can boost profits and reputation by adapting a new business code. And, on the macro scale, this translates to a sound global economy.
Our current model is shifting more towards the rich at the expense of the poor, slowing economic growth. Sophocleous discusses the humanity principles model, where a negative model breaks the system, while the positive leads to greater employee trust, satisfaction, and thus productivity. She argues that leaders are the ones who can evince change. And rather than an action plan, she lists insightful questions to ponder.
I would recommend every company takes on board her message as we hopefully enter a new business era where you can make a fortune and not sell your soul to the devil in order to do so.
